With an eye to the future
At Temple Emanuel expectations are high and if you join our family, one of the first things you’ll learn is that we’re not a group that rests on our laurels!! We hope you’ll find challenges that spark your enthusiasm and that you’ll roll up your sleeves to add your individual touch to this vibrant atmosphere.
So, you ask, what’s new and exciting about this synagogue (besides the people)?
We’ve taken on the most ambitious project since the current building was completed in 1962. Temple Emanuel is building a Jewish community center to add to the cultural, educational and social interests of its membership. This project has been supported by many and is being spearheaded by Mr. Jerry Cohen.
The synagogue is nearing completion of a fully renovated education building to be used for Sunday and Hebrew school classes. A large outdoor menorah for public lightings on Hanukkah has been donated by the Glogower family and has been put to immediate use.
Aesthetic and practical improvements are planned for members of every age group, to name a few: improved on site parking, wide and attractive covered car port/walkway, an elevator and more.
It’s true that our needs are many, but working as a team, there’s no doubt great things are happening at Temple Emanuel. On our wish list, for example, is new carpeting for the sanctuary. There are many opportunities to pitch in and the rewards are great. There are those that have time to give and others that like to participate through financial support.
Fundraising has become a more interesting sector. It has expanded from in house activities such as events, gift shop, and catering to include community support from shared revenue via online shopping, a membership directory with advertisements and more. There are a variety of areas or funds in which one can specify how they’d like their donation to be utilized, for example: rabbi’s discretionary fund, grounds, library, and so forth. It’s even possible to set aside a gift to the synagogue in a will. A wonderful starting point is to send a nachas note for just a few dollars while wishing a friend a happy birthday or graduation. Consider purchasing a plaque or brick paver to really get someone’s attention and give honor to that loved one in a permanent way. I invite you to explore the creative ways to donate to Temple Emanuel and thank you very much for any contribution. It will be used wisely and enjoyed by all of us, as well as future generations.
