School
Temple Emanuel offers both
Sunday School and Hebrew School.
The Sunday School begins at age
three with a preschool class, and runs through tenth grade, which is our
confirmation class. School meets weekly for 2 1/2 hours. The
Hebrew program meets once a week for two hours, begins in the third
grade and continues though Bat/Bar Mitzvah calls. A student must
attend five consecutive years of Hebrew including their Bar/Bat Mitzvah
year, in order to be a B'nai Mitzvot.
Mission Statement
(Adopted from the United
Synagogue of Conservative Judaism's " Framework of Excellence In The
Conservative Synagogue School.")
We wish to create the
foundation for life long Jewish learning and living. We believe that a
good synagogue school education should and can be a major influence in
forming Jewish teenagers knowledge of Judaism as well as their attitudes
and proclivities.
It requires a sufficient amount
of time to form the foundation for future Jewish living, study, and
growth. The school program will best impact the students if it integrates
elements of informal education and systematically engages in family
education. The program needs to start early enough and continue
through adolescence.
Our Goals
-
To inspire children with positive and
abiding faith in G-d and Torah
-
To develop and strengthen the students'
knowledge of and identification with the history and customs of
their ancestors, to foster the security which comes from knowing
one's roots.
-
To prepare students for a lifetime of
participation in Jewish life, both at home and at the Temple.
-
To prepare students to utilize the
religious faith, ethical standards and traditional insights of
Judaism in dealing with personal problems.
-
To stimulate a sense of community with
and responsibility toward fellow men in all parts of the world and
especially the state of Israel through study and through a program
of tzedakah and gemilut chasadim (charitable and compassionate
activities.)
